Jim Duncan’s father, Larry Duncan, built fiberglass boats in the garage when Jim was a toddler. In 1970, he started his retail boat dealership which eventually became Duncan’s Boats. Throughout the years, the family enjoyed boating, cruising and traveling the intracoastal waterway to Florida and the Bahamas annually. With boats and engines having tweaked his interest, Jim pursued an engineering degree from Clemson University. After a successful engineering career, in 1996, Jim returned to assume the responsibility for the dealership. In 2006, Jim purchased Duncan’s Boats, located on the Ashley River in North Charleston. In May 2023, Jim sold the dealership to Coastal Carolina Yacht Sales and continues to work for the company.
